As We Honor Veterans, We Must Acknowledge The Ethical Costs Of Struggle


Newton is a tall, rangy man from Brooklyn with a nice ironic sense of humor. His dark hair, shaved down beneath stubble in Afghanistan, is now almost shoulder-size. He was skeptical at first about speaking to me. But as a correspondent in Afghanistan, I been under fire together with his battalion, and finally he agreed to belief me with a few of his reflections on struggle and killing.
